Still at primary school when he A&Red his first number one single, speaks volumes when it comes to describing this revolutionary music maven.
Music has been pulsing through Mel’s DNA since day one. Growing up in a musical household with his dad pioneering the reggae scene, his mom an events organizer and Jah Shaka being only one of the renowned musical talents in his family.
His unrivalled passion for music has many iconic moments. One of his earliest memories was attending Biggie Smalls’ gig at Wembley stadium at the early age of 7. His adoration for the artist inspired him to replicate the rappers’ style and soon he was sporting his own big yellow puffer, just like Biggie. Growing up in an extremely eclectic household that was always a hub for musicians - with at
least 15 people his house at the same time - formed his communal spirit. This collaborative essence carried through to the companies he founded.
Studying at the Brits Creative School Of Arts, enhanced his visionary persona. It is second nature to him to completely immersed himself in the wide spectrum of arts and characters. Being able to utilize his skills for nurturing talent and guiding them in the best direction to evolve. Apart from guiding an artist he is also a big believer in unison in terms of creating work that enriches both parties involved.
In 2002 he started the production company: Make Or Take Productions. Filming all over London, and especially well known for capturing and growing the grime scene. This also inspired the founding of his own record label GPP with his brother (Ghetto Platinum Productions). Here renowned tracks, like: OG season, Dot Rotten - RIP Young Dots, as well as Giggs - Walk In The Park - were produced. In 2006 he was the first to open up Digital Holdings (studio).
Nothing drives Mel more than bringing other people’s dreams to fruition. This is enhanced by his musical genes, which have helped him naturally develop a formula for success for all his proteges. Even though he is way too humble to admit this himself - you will be hard pressed to find an A&R who cares more about their artists’ dreams than Mel. He is a true believer in letting quality work speak for itself.

In ? he came on board with Samurai Sounds, which was founded by his longtime friend Willis. In order to attract fresh talent and new energy, the studio underwent a re-branding and added their own label named Current Cycle Creatives to the company.
His work shines through his unique creative twists and pushing artists to explore more experimental ways of working. A rare tastemaker!
